Bloodwood Dugout

Not what I expected

I have been smoking from dugouts for at least 12 years now. This dugout has several things about it that are not acceptable; 1) This is about 12% larger than the average dugout and thus is less comfortable in the pocket. They could have used less wood and better drilled the holes. 2) The cut out for the bat is too small and just barely fits the pipe it comes with. This is bad because from my experience a fatter 'bat' has a larger bowl and will tend to get hot more slowly. A larger bat is better because you get longer lasting bowls and are less likely to burn your fingers holding the pipe. Its important to point out that a dugout will eventually have enough resin leak from the pipe (thanks gravity!) into the spring area and start to gum up the ability for the bat to easily move in and out. The larger the pipe hole the longer it takes for this to occur so you have to replace your dugout less frequently when its got a bigger cut out. There ARE spring replacement kits but you have to makes sure you get the right size spring and are prepared to spend a lot of time trying to clean the tar out before inserting the new spring. The one good thing this dugout has going for it is the spring. The bat REALLY does 'shoot' out of the dugout when you twist it open.

Very nice. It is very compact and efficient. I just wish it was built with a poker and the inside had a lot of wood stain residue I had to swab out before use. All in all, I'm satisfied with the product.

So I smoke a freaking lot right? I've always loved getting new toys, and this dugout has been one of my absolute favorite toys yet. What isn't there to love? It's so convenient, made in the US, it's durable, it's so nice looking, it does the job realllly well, stores a lot of material, it's the best! :)

Dug out

I just happened to be web surfer and ran across 1 percent.com. Let's put it this way I was on it for over an hour. :)

This is a quality product. It holds everything you need. I made a little improvement by curling up a cylinder of tinfoil and covering it in duct tape and dropping it onto the spring. This lets me put it bowl side down without any worry of losing plant matter. The quality is superb.
